Advanced Research Project at DiK

The focus of the Advanced Research Project is the independent processing of a scientific engineering task.

Semester: winter/summer semester
Start: upon agreement
Credit Points: 6 CP
Length of assignment: The total duration between the start of the assignment and the final presentation should not be less than 2 months and should not exceed 6 months.

The main focus of the advanced research project is the independent work of an engineering problem by a student. The student is coached by a research assistant of the DiK.

The scientific content worked out by the student have to be demonstrated in an interim and final presentation. In addition the student has to do a written report on his acitivities. After the start of the lecture period the individual available are presented in a introductory lecture.

    If the real product is composed of a multitude of components that interact in a complex way and are controlled by a number of complex physical laws, then it should also be possible to create a virtual product consisting of a number of different physical (software) models.

    Currently, existing models of the FESTO MPS 403 plant have been developed in Plant Simulation, Excel, MSC ADAMS and Siemens Nx.

  • Potential von Hardware/Software/Model in theLoop (HiL/SiL/MiL) in Industrie 4.0

    In mechanical and plant engineering, HiL usually connects a PLC to a physical model of a plant via a fieldbus. If embedded systems (model) are simulated in a loop together with the environment model, this is called MiL simulation. The created model of the software or SiL is converted into the code that can be understood by the target hardware. This code is executed on the development computer together with the simulated model instead of running on the target hardware as with HiL.

    The aim of this thesisis to determine the potential and benefits of HiL/SiL/MiL as the technological basis for Industry 4.0 by means of demonstrations and sample programs.
