Nadia Galaske studied Industrial Engineering & Management until August 2012 at the Technical University of Darmstadt. She completed her studies with a thesis at BMW Group and at the Department of Computer Integrated Design (DiK), both focusing on holistic variant management in the product lifecycle.

Following her studies she joined a position as a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Department of Computer Integrated Design in October 2012.

Ms. Galaske has left our department in 2018.


Mrs. Galaske supervised the lecture Virtual Product Development B from the summer semester 2013 until winter semester 2014/2015. In this lecture the basics and importance of product data management are taught as well as the methods, technologies and functions of product data management systems are introduced.

In parallel, from summer semester 2013 to summer semester 2016 Mrs. Galaske supervised the tutorial Collaborative Engineering – PDM with Windchill. As part of the tutorial, knowledge from the lectures Virtual Product Development A/B/C is deepened on practical examples using the product data management system PTC Windchill.

Mittelstand 4.0 – Kompetenzzentrum Darmstadt

Since March 2016 Mrs. Galaske has been working on the MiT4.0 – Competence Center Darmstadt for Small and Medium Enterprises. MiT4.0 with its learning factories at the TU Darmstadt will provide small and medium enterprises a central platform for knowledge transfer and training modules. During the workshops, company representatives are directly informed about the potentials and challenges for the digitalization of their business processes. In addition, there are eight implementation projects offered for selected individual companies and numerous Industrie 4.0 research projects.

Under the umbrella of the MiT4.0, small and medium enterprises are offered following support:

  • Initial information about digital transformation, e.g. by demonstrators or by showing existing solutions
  • Training courses in the five fields of action: “Efficient value-added process”, “Work & Labor 4.0”, “New business models”, “Energy management”, and “IT security”.
  • IHK certificate course “Train the Trainer 4.0” for business consultants, trainers in commerce chambers and associations
  • E-learning programs, workgroups, and conferences

Through diverse events and further training formats more than 3.000 people from company representatives, consultants, as well as labor union members should be reached during the project term.

SmartF-IT – cyber-physical IT systems for the “Industrie 4.0”

From June 2013 to May 2016 Mrs. Galaske worked on the collaborative research project SmartF-IT – Cyber physical IT systems for the Industrie 4.0 for controlling complexity of a new generation multi-adaptive factories. The project SmartF-IT is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for a period of 3 years. Within the SmartF-IT project technologies are being developed to make manageable the production of small quantities in real time at maximum quality and yet at low costs. This adaptive cyber-physical IT systems are used at all levels of production in order to achieve the introduction, implementation and operation of integrated production systems.

The main areas of research of the DiK at this point are focused on the development of an integrated process model, on support of agile sensor management, on human-centered software design and on need-based adaptation to human labor while respecting sustainable acceptance of all participants involved in the production process.

Further research activities

From October 2012 to May 2013 Mrs. Galaske worked on an industrial project with the international agricultural equipment company CLAAS KGaA mbH. The focus of the project was the analysis of customer requirements and the resulting process chains in the context of documentation quality in product development. On this basis a recommended course of action for the CLAAS norm for the coordination of documents and reference documents by means of definition of processes was defined.
